Is it in the riging??
Posted April 26th, 2009 by rob
Hello, I managed to get out at preston yesterday and beter still got to use my my new 4.5 Manic. (which I bought in Jan!
) I rigged the sail pretty flat as I wanted as much control as possible but when I was on the go my front hand seemed to be taking all the pull from the sail and the back hand was really light .. is this the nature of the sail or because of how i rigged it?? ps i don't use a harness yet... cheers guys

It maybe that you rigged it
It maybe that you rigged it too flat. I always find that too match outhaul makes the sail too twitchy and under powered lacking drive. I outhaul just enough to allow you to push the sail so it just touches the inside of the back of the boom about a 1.5-2 foot from the clew. Downhaul is very important. Always crank it on so that the third battern sits in the middle of the mast. But I found that too much downhaul so the leech is floppy too far down the sail also ruins power. I normally crank it down with a downhaul tool and then just let a bit off. But I stress ... every time I have flattened off my sail it ruins the power. They do say a flatter sail is better for going up wind but I prefer it to be fuller as it creates more drive... Google 'guy cribb' he's got some really important articles on sail set up.
Hope this helps.

No probs... I don't what it
No probs... I don't what it is but I never got on with flatter sails... even when it's windy so I rig smaller sail or use a smaller fin.
See you out there ... I'm waiting for some wind..but there nothing around today

Thanks again - see you out there

riggin
try to use a harness which at first seems a bit like whats all this then???but this is a bit step in rig control and power distribution as you will learn to transfer your weight evenly and stand properly...i always rig quite a flat sail as this allows faster wind spill when over powerd and quicker rig flips j.t
