Location, location, location....

Hi folks,

I'm trying to find more places to launch from around the area to suit the different wind directions. My usuals would be coombe cellars for W & E, preston for most others N, S, SW, SE etc (how does it work in a NW?).. Where else can you sail  and which directions are best i.e broadsands, breakwater beach, mansands, dawlish warren??? any info would be appreciated... (I spoke to Danny about putting a beach guide on here so this info could be really usefull in the future)..

 Thanks in adavance

Rob

Hi,

Great Question!

I'd be really interested to sail somewhere in Torbay with any kind of W in it. So far, unless really desperate I will always head over to bigbury. I have sailed from Meadfoot in a SW. The wind can be nice, but the anxiety of the "What If" factor (i.e. off long swim to Portland), coupled with the swim out past the rocks usually makes the session much less enjoyable.

Is launching from the swimming pool at Brixham just as Dicey as Meadfoot?

hi i ve only sailed meadfoot once and brixham once and i would say they are both dicey must say looking out for rocks when your sailing is nt good but theres rocks at bigbury at high tide its just knowing where they are isnt it

Sailing Spots

I'm pretty boring as I tend to sail all the locations you've listed. I have dropped in at the beach under livermead cliff hotel on a low tide as you can walk out from behind the rocks. This works well on a Westerly as you are out into the wind. Sailed Torre Abbey a couple of times but I'm weary of the traffic wardens now. Rod/Phil swear by Meadfoot beach and Brixham for Westerlies. But the entires into the water are either a 15 min swim out into the wind at Meadfoot or entry from rocks at Brixham by the swimming pool. Others swear by ICI car park at Brixham. I want to sail Goodrington but I've not had the chance as always default to Preston. No wind today..... I'm going kayaking...
